What does the PRV domain cover on the AMRT exam?

It covers how a mold job is proven finished. Verification starts with a visual inspection — no visible growth, no visible dust and debris, no remaining moisture problem — and moves to sampling only where the project criteria call for it. Those criteria are agreed in writing before the work, not invented at the end.

The domain also covers who performs verification and why independence matters, what a spore trap sample is for, how indoor results are commonly evaluated against an outdoor comparison, and what happens when clearance fails: you go back, re-clean, and re-verify. Moisture verification belongs here too, because a dry standard that was never met is a callback waiting to happen. Work the Post-Remediation Verification & Clearance module alongside this quiz.

Where do candidates lose points on PRV questions?

Reaching for a number. Candidates want a universal spore count that means "passed," and the exam does not offer one. The criteria that govern your job are the ones written in the IEP's protocol, evaluated in context against an outdoor or comparison sample.

The second miss is the visual step. Sampling never substitutes for a clean, dry work area you can see is clean, and a verification that finds settled dust on horizontal surfaces is a fail regardless of what the air says. The third is independence: the contractor who did the work is not the right party to certify it, and a question about conflict of interest is testing exactly that.

How should you study PRV and the IEP role?

Learn the order — visual, then moisture, then sampling if the protocol requires it — and learn who owns each step. Most PRV questions are really questions about sequence and role.

Read a real clearance report end to end if you can get one, and compare it against our walkthrough of the process. Use the mold remediation checklist to see what has to be finished before you call for verification, and the S520 page for how PRV closes out the remediation principles. Then take the quiz above with no notes.
